The practice nurses are available by appointment. Their work includes all routine nursing procedures, such as blood tests, removal of stitches, dressings, ear syringe (check with your doctor), immunisations and health assessments. They are particularly involved with monitoring of long term conditions, e.g. asthma, diabetes and heart disease as well as illness prevention by offering cervical smears, dietary and travel advice.

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Jean has undertaken recognised training to allow her to take routine blood tests, dressings and ECGs.
