Everyone who is on regular medication can have it available on a repeat prescription. As all of our prescription records are computerised, you will receive a printed list of these repeat medications every time you receive a prescription. This list is attached to the prescription form.
There are a number of ways to make your request. You can:
- Use our online service via the link at the top of this page (you will need to register with the practice before using this system).
- Tick against the list of items on the prescription counterfoil and hand this slip in at reception or at one of the participating chemists (please allow extra time if left with a chemist).
Please note that we are unable to accept requests for repeat prescriptions by telephone. This is to minimise any possibility of errors being made.
You can collect your prescription from reception at Newcombes, and from our dispensary in Thorverton. You can also request that your prescription be sent to the pharmacist of your choice electronically.
Please allow 48 working hours for your prescription to be prepared.
We do try to keep the medicines we prescribe under constant review. This is for clinical reasons and because there is often a quite large cost difference between medicines that appear to do the same job. Some particular brands may appear to have some slight advantage over others, but if the difference is slight we will try, of course, to use the cheaper one. This cost cutting means that the NHS can put the savings into other areas of patient care. To this end we often prescribe medicine by a “chemical” name rather than its brand name. For example, Ibuprofen rather than Nurofen, Omeprazole rather than Losec, Fluoxetine rather than Prozac.
Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
