Asthma and Chronic Pulmonary Disease
The practice nurses regularly review all patients with these conditions to monitor their treatment.
Child Development
First Thursday of every month 11:45 - 12:45. The doctors and health visitors monitor pre-school child development. Children are called when their assessment is due.
Cervical Smears
The practice operates a recall system for cervical smears. This is usually done by the practice nurses during surgery hours.
Contraception
Contraceptive advice is offered during normal surgery hours by the doctors and practice nurses.
Diabetes
All patients with diabetes are seen regularly by the practice nurses. They monitor the condition, in conjunction with the doctors and advise on diet and blood sugar control to help prevent long term complications.
Heart Disease
Patients with heart disease are reviewed by the practice nurses and doctors.
Other Chronic Diseases
Patients with long-term illnesses are monitored by the practice nurses and doctors during normal surgery hours. They are recalled by telephone or letter.
Physiotherapy
The physiotherapist runs clinics on Tuesday afternoon at the Thorverton surgery. Patients are seen following a doctor’s referral.
Smoking Cessation
The clinic is run by the practice nurse. Patients enrol on a 6 week course to help them stop smoking following referral by a doctor or nurse. Patients are required to complete a questionnaire about their smoking habits and hand it into reception. The practice nurse will then contact the patient to arrange the appointment.
Weight Control Clinic
The clinic is run by the practice nurse. Patients enrol on an 8 week course to help them control their weight. The practice nurse will monitor their progress every week. Patients are encouraged to participate in the group session for support.
